the glamour of Rausu

Shiretoko Peninsula, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, where you can fully enjoy an immense and rare natural environment

Shiretoko Peninsula is located in the eastern part of Hokkaido.

It is shaped like an arrowhead pointing towards the northeast. In the northern half of the centerline of the peninsula is Shari Town, and in the southern half is Rausu Town.

The biggest characteristic of Shiretoko Peninsula is the natural environment, as symbolized by the fact that it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Drift ice brings a vast amount of plankton, which melt into the seawater and results in many kinds of fish growing proliferously.
This is also a favorable condition for birds and land-dwelling creatures that eat fish. Thus, the productivity of the ecological chain is high in the area.
It is also a precious area inhabited by many endangered animals.
